Grow Up

Life is growth. At least for humans it is. In fact, for humans it is self-induced growth.

Self induced? All other life forms continue to evolve by surviving what Nature throws at them. The polar bear's environment is currently under a lot of stress by the retreating ice cap. Can it survive?

Can humanity survive the same issue? Undoubtedly because we, unlike polar bears, can develop technologies, using our intelligence to expand our physical capabilities. We can theorize, postulate, mull, calculate, and experiment with various ideas to solve our life's problems. It is in this fashion that we created the ability to travel anywhere on the planet in a matter of hours which minimizes our exposure to climate changes.

But that is barely the tip of the iceberg for the human potential for change. What happens on the emotional level? The passions and the feelings that energize our focus? As I write this, we in America are responding to yet another horrible shooting, this time the victims were cut down while praying. The shooter's motive was to start a war between whites and blacks - as insipid and sick a cause as is humanly possible. But his goal has now been connected to the Confederate War flag as a symbol of that cause. In response, Americans, including Southerners, have grown by adapting their feelings about what that flag means and how it should be displayed.

That then leaves spiritual growth. Using the same example we are seeing more and more people display their belief that this most superficial of differences, skin color, is absolutely no indicator of value. More and more people are responding to the discussions by expanding their respect for an individual's qualifications, OR, the "content of their character."

Life is growth. Human growth is fueled by Excellence. Yet no one can be Excellent alone. And the more people we include in our Communities of Excellence, the more Excellence, thus the more growth, we produce.
