Life is all about growth.
Growth is a gift we received from our forebears and is the basis from which we may pass something along to our descendants. But often we misidentify the source of growth as property driven. Growth comes from health.
Nature show us how growth occurs. Different plant species each require their own combination of soil qualities, nutrients, climate, and light for their health. Mobile life forms must also decipher threats from security to steer their wanderings.
Compare the redwood to the rose bush. Each has a base and girth commensurate with its height. And the whale cruises openly in all seas while the mouse must evasively scurry from hole to food and back again.
Humans must also have a healthy base to stand upon and from which to move beyond. That base is health: physical - diet and exercise, intellectual - reflection and planning, and emotional - belonging and enthusiasm. But there is also spiritual health - meditation and prayer. Each level of human existence has a health component for the base and another for the motion.
For if we defy growing we exist in a world more similar to that of the whale and mouse. And if we try to move without a proper foundation we will merely topple over into frustration and defeat.
