I have been posting a series on entries comparing my own mullings as compared to those written by Emperor Marcus Aurelius 1900 year ago. The idea was for us to see that it is normal to seek Excellence in our selves, even if that self is the most powerful man on Earth. (Marcus, not me.)
Changes for the better, or in my terms - seeking Excellence - are manifest in being human. A chimpanzee's life is little different from his ancestor from 1900 years ago, not so with Marcus and Me. Or you. We humans have been seeking Excellence since homo sapiens emerged from the savannah. It's what makes us the top of the evolutionary chain. But, no one can be Excellent alone!
We form communities so we don't have to struggle for Excellence unaided. We can offer our strengths while relying on the strengths of others to overcome our own weaknesses. All the better for the exchange of strengths.
Tomorrow I will begin a series of entries that will focus more on us today doing what we need to do to further the work of our forefathers. What will we leave behind? Where can we direct the next generation to go? Who can we touch with a sampling of our strengths and so keep the evolutionary ball rolling?
Marcus Aurelius felt a responsibility to posterity that he had his personal, private, journals published. He's an example to emulate. And so we begin.
