We Need a Cure for Ignorance - Fast!

It is at the point where you think you have THE answer that you stop thinking. And that means you have surrendered to the delusion that you have perfect knowledge. Obnoxious that, no?

Humanity is, if nothing else, a work in progress. The question that pervades all that is human is where that progress will lead. I believe that it leads to God. As a people, we know so very much more about the universe than our ancestors of just 50 years ago. Compared to people alive in Jesus' time, we would seem like gods to most of them for what we call just basic knowledge. Tracking that development forward to the ultimate capability in this sphere would be all knowing. Omniscience. An attribute attributed only to God. Anyone who promotes themselves as such is the utmost in both ignorance and obnoxiousness.

I am spurred to this reflection by the utmost in obnoxious ignorance - the shutdown of the United States government.

Over 300 million people are being held hostage by a few dozen political extremists convinced that there own wisdom is THE wisdom. That if only "everybody did as I told them" then everything would be perfect. I am a Congressman, or Senator, or President, or radio/tv/web/press commentator! Do as I tell you and you'll be perfect - JUST LIKE ME! It doesn't get more obnoxious or more ignorant than that.

At the crux of all this is a law. Proposed and enacted in both Houses of Congress, signed by the President, and challenged and confirmed in the Supreme Court. A law. A law that these very people voted on. A law that some of the obnoxious and ignorant feel they have the right to ignore. Kind of like a mulligan in golf. "I don't like that shot, let's ignore that one and I'll hit again."

The most obnoxious part of this whole process is that the same people who are screaming bloody murder defending breaking this law are pretty damned good at screaming at other lawbreakers for ignoring laws of their own.

"We have met the enemy and he is us." (Kudos to Walt Kelly for that piece of wisdom.)

The good news is that we are also the solution. Every one has strengths and weaknesses so no one can be excellent alone. If ever a human institution relied on that premise it is the country founded on the Truths propounded in The Declaration of Independence and its government that was formalized in the Constitution - The United States of America. We have met the solution and it is us.

THEY WORK FOR US! It is now more than ever that WE need to stand up and take our wayward childish representatives over our knees and spank them back to their senses.
