All?

How can you give your all if you don't believe?

We humans are equal parts soul, heart, mind, and body. If you don't believe in what you're doing then you are excluding at least 25% of who you are. And I say AT LEAST 25% because I believe you can't put your heart into something unless you believe in it.

It is late August, the season for students to return to school. Instead of offering sage advise at the graduation ceremony I offer this thought now. So that any students who are in the midst of deciding what to study to succeed in their lives may include their beliefs in the decisions. I am a writer, I was born to it. Yet I went to school for Finance and Business Administration. My grades were OK. But it was the Philosophy courses where I excelled. Why? Because I strongly believe in finding out the why of things. It's a passion. Money is merely a tool for going about our lives.

That combination of beliefs has fostered a pretty good business career. If you did the math on where I started and where I am now, you'd consider it successful. Yet I sense a taint of incompleteness. I feel as if I could have done and can do more. I feel that I could have and can use my talents, training, and experience to better contribute to my community.

Every day I set one task for myself that extends my contribution further into my community. Do something that I believe in. Successful and satisfying. I highly recommend it.
