The Cancer of Excellence

The cancer of Excellence is greed.

Greed is the desire for that which has not been earned and shows itself as an affront to at least one of the five components of a Community of Excellence.

Security is the first and is defined as the belief, feeling, and understanding that we are all in this together. The very direct opposite of greed. Doing greedy things are the actions of people who put themselves above others. "To hell with every one else, I will get what I can no matter what." This might mean parking in a fire zone in front of a supermarket to avoid a twenty yard walk. Or breaking into a house to steal someone's hard earned valuables. Or even using one's political position to send public money to a contractor who has agreed to give you a kickback.

Next is Courage to do the right thing. But greed espouses cowardice. Greedy people do not do the right thing and must therefore hide what they're doing. They need to skulk, slink, and sneak in the shadows to get what they want.

There is no Justice in getting the things that were earned by someone else.

For there to be Tolerance there must be respect. Greed offers no respect - not even self-respect. Those engaged in greedy activities are forced to skulk around as cowards. Having no pride or joy in what they are doing. Since this is such a self-demeaning process the greedy will suppress others in a vile attempt to retain the delusion that they are on top.

Greedy people don't Celebrate their greed because they are alone. Pitifully alone.

Inclusion is power, exclusion is suicide.

In the US we are fraught with controversies over taxes, public debt, guns, etc. and that elitist attitude that pervades beyond our borders. All this controversy has at its roots Greed. This post introduces a series of posts about the greedy in our societies and their impact on our lives.
